A simple, nutritious muffin packed with fiber, healthy fats, and a little natural sweetness!
These cinnamon flaxseed muffins have been part of my morning routine for years. I make a batch every week and enjoy two with my breakfast.
They're made with ground flaxseed instead of traditional flour, along with eggs, cinnamon, applesauce, and maple syrup.
Flaxseed is a good source of fiber, plant-based omega-3 fatty acids (ALA), and lignans, which are naturally occurring plant compounds with antioxidant properties.
They're easy to make, satisfying, and a delicious way to add more fiber to your day.
Cinnamon Flaxseed Muffin Recipe
Prep time: 10 minutes
Bake time: 20–25 minutes
Oven temperature: 350°F
Yield: Approximately 12 muffins
Ingredients
2 cups ground flaxseed (I use organic whole golden flaxseed and grind it in my coffee grinder)
1 tablespoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon sea salt
1–2 tablespoons cinnamon, depending on your preference
6 whole eggs
⅓ cup unsweetened applesauce or mashed banana
¼–⅓ cup pure maple syrup (honey or your preferred sweetener can also be used)
¼ cup warm water
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 12-cup muffin tin or line it with muffin liners.
In a large bowl, combine the ground flaxseed, baking powder, sea salt, and cinnamon.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, maple syrup, applesauce (or mashed banana), and warm water.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until combined.
Let the batter sit for 5 minutes to thicken up.
Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each approximately ¾ full.
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the muffins are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the muffins to cool before storing them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Why I Love These Muffins
One of the reasons I regularly include ground flaxseed in my diet is its nutritional value.
Flaxseed provides soluble and insoluble fiber, which support digestive health. It also contains alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid, and lignans, plant compounds that are being studied for their potential health benefits.
And beyond the nutrition, I simply enjoy eating them!
I believe healthy aging is about building consistent habits that support our health while still enjoying the foods we love.
These muffins are one of those habits for me.
Enjoy! 💛
